Candidates taking part in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Sagnarigu Municipality are being sensitized on the examination rules and regulations as part of preparations towards the smooth conduct of this year’s BECE.
The sensitization programme provides an opportunity for teachers and West African Examination Council officers to interact with the students and brief them on the Dos and Don’ts of the examination.
The programme was organized by the Sagnarigu Municipal Education Directorate (GES) in collaboration with Center for Active Learning Integration Development (CALID) brought together various JHSs in the municipality to orient them on exam malpractices and how to overcome them. During the sensitization programme, candidates were given tips on how to pass their examinations and career guidance.
The BECE for School Candidates, 2022 will be conducted from 17th to 21th October, 2022. Speaking to the media Executive Director for CALID Mohammed Awal Sumani Bapio indicates that the sensitization programme is a way to improve the performance of pupils in the municipality.
According to him the Sagnarigu Municipalilty and for that matter northern region has not performed well in the BECE over the years, a situation he says is worrying and has asked that much need to be done to tackle the situation.
The Regional Girls Education Officer Linda Amoah on her part indicates that, exam malpractices usually affect the girl child’s education, an issue the sensitization programme seeks to address. She however advised candidates to take their studies seriously.
”Our girls are usually affected by exam malpractice and this has led to them dropping out from school and becoming teenage mothers, and so we are taking this opportunity to take them through what they are supposed to know before they enter the exam hall come October, and we hope they will learn and pass their exam”, she noted.
