Display openly at funerals and ceremonies beautiful smocks and rich culture of Dagbang not assault rifles-Ndan Ya-Naa admonishes youth
The Overlord of Dagbang, Ndan Ya-Naa Abukari has directed all paramount chiefs in the Kingdom to ensure that youth stop carrying sophisticated weapons and live ammunition at funeral homes.
The overlord expressed his unhappiness about some youths still engaging the act despite his earlier caution to desist from at various traditional and cultural events especially during installation of Regents and circumambulation of funeral homes.
Addressing members of the Dagbang Traditional Council emergency meeting in Ynedi, Ndan Ya-Naa told members that he is reliably informed by elders, some security personnel and other peace-loving citizens about the brazen impunity by some youths.
This blatant lawlessness, he noted, was prevalent in the entire Dagbang and sometimes caught in videos and photographs in circulation.
Ndan Ya-Naa condemns the behavior of the chiefs involved in these despicable practices and reminds them that Dagbang is not at war. He therefore directed all chiefs and the youth in Dagbang to henceforth stop the display and use of assault rifles during funerals.
The overlord stated that, as a matter of urgency, all members of this august Council should implement this directive within their respective traditional areas. He calls for the co-operation of all and sundry to ensure strict adherence to the directive.
‘I will also be engaging with the relevant security agencies to support these efforts in combating this menace. What the youth of the kingdom need, the king said, is to display openly at funerals and ceremonies beautiful smocks and the rich culture and tradition, and NOT assault rifles.
‘As the King and Overlord of the Dagbang Kingdom, my court and I are preoccupied with prayers to God Almighty and to our ancestors, to whom we all owe our skins, to bless the Kingdom with abundant unity, peace and prosperity for the benefit of all citizens of the Kingdom and all people living in Dagbang with us’ he asserted.
He expressed the hope that all paramount chiefs and divisional chiefs will respectively work with their elders and all relevant stakeholders within their traditional areas to immediately stop the use of assault rifles and ammunition at all funeral events and ceremonies.
Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu welcomed the decision by the Ndan Ya-Naa to ban chiefs from carrying small arms with them during funerals and reiterated the regional coordinating council support.
