The Member of Parliament (MP) for Zabzugu Constituency, Hon. Alhassan Umar Obaako, has called for peace and unity following a recent tragic incident that resulted in the death of a young man. The incident, which occurred in Kuntombi Yili, was reportedly caused by a misunderstanding between daylight hunters and residents.
During a visit to the community and the victim’s family, Hon. Obaako condemned the act and urged residents to remain calm while traditional rulers and the police investigate the matter. He also dismissed reports suggesting that the conflict was an ethnic clash between Konkombas and Dagombas, clarifying that it was a dispute between hunters and community members.
The MP further emphasized the role of responsible journalism in preventing the spread of misinformation. He urged media professionals to be cautious in their reporting to avoid fueling tensions or reinforcing harmful narratives.
Hon. Obaako’s visit follows that of the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John, who engaged with local chiefs and stakeholders to restore peace in the area.
Meanwhile, former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Zabzugu, Mr. Wahab, echoed the MP’s call for peaceful coexistence among tribes, stressing the importance of dialogue in resolving disputes.
The Zabzugu Constituency has experienced tensions in the past, but local leaders and authorities continue to work toward sustainable peace and unity.
