It has not all been smooth sailing in the NDC presidential and parliamentary primaries in the northern region as tension runs high in all the 31 constituencies.
Voting was suspended in the Kumbungu constituency over allegations of bloated register. Four aspirants accused Ras Mubarak of padding the register. The Electoral Commission officer in charge had no option but to refer the matter to his superiors and the party leadership in Tamale.
Confusion broke out at the Warizihi khalibiya and ECG polling center in the Tamale central over where the parliamentary ballot box should be placed. Some voters wanted the presidential ballot box to be in an open place while others with so much interest in the parliamentary primaries wanted to be in a secret place.
Security presence: Over one thousand uniformed personnel have been deployed to provide security at over 600 polling stations of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential and parliamentary primary elections.
However, our monitoring of most of the polling centers in Tamale revealed that security personnel detailed to provide security arrived late resulting in some confrontations which could have been averted.
