Hon. Atta Issah Launches Historic Education Scholarship Fund for Students in Sagnarigu

In a groundbreaking move to support education in his constituency, Hon. Atta Issah, Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, has launched the first-ever MP-led educational scholarship scheme in the area. The program, which officially commenced today at the forecourt of the Naa Bapri Sagnarigu Palace, marks a historic milestone in the MP’s efforts to expand access to education for underprivileged students.
The scholarship fund, totaling GHS 800,000, will be disbursed over the next four years to deserving students in Sagnarigu. For the inaugural phase covering the May–June academic window, 100 students have been selected to receive financial support. Preparations are already underway for a second batch of beneficiaries in the upcoming September window.
In a brief address to the gathering, Hon. Atta Issah underscored the importance of investing in human capital through inclusive educational policies. He advocated for “no-fee” stress-free education and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring free tertiary education for persons living with disabilities. He emphasized that such pro-poor initiatives are vital for long-term development.
Beyond education, the MP also updated the audience on various ongoing infrastructure projects in the constituency. These include the construction and upgrading of CHPS compounds in Sognaayili, Kumbuyili, Dimala, and Yilonaayili, as well as a new 3-unit classroom block in Dugushagu. Hon. Issah also announced the commencement of an 18-kilometer road construction project, with special attention to the road connecting the Municipal Assembly to Kpane and Kasalgu.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who chaired the occasion, expressed gratitude to the Chief of Sagnarigu for his continued support of both the Assembly and central government initiatives. He praised Hon. Atta Issah’s vision, called for collective backing to ensure the success of the scholarship program.
The Chairman of the Education Committee, in his opening remarks, detailed the rigorous and transparent selection process that produced the list of first beneficiaries. He assured the public of the committee’s commitment to fairness and equity in future disbursements.
The Chief of Sagnarigu, who served as the guest of honor, lauded Hon. Issah for easing the financial burden that school fees have placed on many families. He encouraged the MP to sustain the initiative and noted that doing so would greatly enhance his prospects in future elections. The chief, however, used the platform to raise concern over the acute water shortages in the constituency and called on the MP to collaborate with other lawmakers in Tamale to find a lasting solution.
A representative of the beneficiary students, speaking on behalf of her colleagues, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Atta Issah for his visionary leadership and timely intervention in their educational journey.
