N/R: Twelve educational institutions receive Head of State Award license certificates to operate as Award Centre in Northern Region

Twelve educational institutions have received their Head of State Award (HOSA) license certificates to operate as an Award Centre in the Northern Region. The twelve are made up of 10 Senior High Schools and two tertiary institutions to run and deliver the Head of State Aware to young people.

The HOSA is a non-formal education and learning framework that challenges and equips young people between the ages of 14-24 for life and work. The license certificates are presented to youth organizations, institutions and organizations working with young people and wish to use the Award framework to challenge and develop the soft skills of young people, equipping them with the needed life and employable skills for life and work.

The Executive Director of the Head of State Award Scheme Peter Akai Anum speaking to the media explained that the award scheme enhances the learning opportunities of young people outside the walls of the classroom.

He added the scheme has three Award levels of Bronze, Silver and Gold and four sectional requirements of Community Service, Skills Development, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journey providing a balanced programme of personal challenge and development, pushing young people to their limits.

Some of the Head Teachers who spoke to Zaa News indicated their commitments to ensure their schools serve as effective awards centers. They believe the award centers will benefit the students immensely.
