FDA Releases list of 184 approved companies in Northern Region amid concerns over sachet water quality
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has officially released a comprehensive list of companies registered and approved to operate in the Northern Region, following growing public concerns over the quality of sachet water sold to consumers.
According to the FDA, a total of 184 companies have met all regulatory requirements and have been duly approved to conduct business in the region. The disclosure comes at a critical time when reports of unsafe sachet water on the market are increasing.
In recent months, many residents have complained about the poor quality of some sachet water brands, citing visible impurities, unusual taste, and unpleasant odor. Health experts warn that consuming contaminated water poses serious health risks, including waterborne diseases and long-term complications.
Concerned by the situation, Alidu Isaiah, a journalist with ZAA Multimedia, formally wrote an RTI to the FDA requesting access to the official list of registered and approved sachet water producers. The aim, according to the journalist, is to support investigative efforts to identify unregistered and unapproved producers operating illegally within the region.
The safety of the public must come first, according Alidu Isaiah. He said that having access to the official list allows journalists and the public to distinguish between approved manufacturers and those endangering lives by selling unregulated products.
The FDA responded positively by submitting the requested list, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, public health, and collaboration with the media. The Authority further emphasized that any company found producing or distributing sachet water without approval will face sanctions in accordance with the law.
Consumers are being urged to check sachet water packaging for FDA registration numbers and proper labeling before purchase. The FDA also encouraged the public to report suspicious or substandard products to the nearest FDA office for swift action.
As investigations continue, the collaboration between the media and regulatory bodies is expected to expose illegal operators and help sanitize the sachet water industry in the Northern Region, ensuring safer drinking water for all.
