As part of efforts to improve routine vaccination coverage among adults and children in the Sagnarigu Municipality, the Ministry of Health (MoH), in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), has organized a two-day “Saving Lives and Livelihoods” training of trainers for Ghana Health Service (GHS) staff.
The initiative aims to equip health workers with the necessary skills and knowledge to train community volunteers who will engage households and promote demand for routine immunizations.
Speaking to Zaa News, Senior Programme Officer Thomas Aapore explained that the project is designed to enhance healthcare delivery and increase vaccine uptake in the municipality.

“The Saving Lives and Livelihoods programme seeks to train Ghana Health Service workers to cascade the training to community volunteers who will be deployed into communities and households to promote demand for adult vaccinations and routine immunizations such as Hepatitis B, Yellow Fever, and Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) in the Sagnarigu Municipality,” Mr. Aapore stated.
He further highlighted the focus of the training:
“Volunteers need to acquire community entry skills, learn how to effectively engage people, and deliver the message across to increase vaccine coverage in the area. It’s important to note that volunteers are not health professionals and should refer any challenges they encounter to the nearest health facility for redress.”
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Aapore urged the volunteers to collaborate closely with health workers and report any difficulties during community outreach activities to ensure smooth implementation of the immunization exercise.
