The Northern Regional Director of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Abdul Gafaru Seidu Dambu, over the weekend, hosted a dinner for 200 orphaned children in Gushegu, in a social responsibility initiative.
The event took place at the Kofi Guest House in Gushegu and brought together orphaned children drawn from various communities within the municipality.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the event, Mr. Abdul Gafaru, known affectionately as Commander Kanayo, shared a personal motivation behind the gesture. He revealed that the loss of his parents, his father in 2000 and his mother in 2021, shaped his understanding of the critical role parental care and guidance play in a child’s life.
“Having lost both my parents, I understand what it means to grow up without parental guidance. That experience has stayed with me, and it has informed my desire to always support children who find themselves in similar circumstances,” he said.
Abdul Gafaru, who is also the ruling NDC youth Organiser for the GUSHEGU Constituency, explained that the dinner was also a gesture of gratitude to God and society following his appointment as Northern Regional Director of NEIP, noting that leadership comes with the responsibility to serve beyond official duties.
The children were treated to a full meal, refreshments, and moments of joy, with many expressing excitement and appreciation for the attention and care shown to them.
Residents of Gushegu lauded the initiative and have called on other leaders and institutions to emulate the gesture, noting that such acts go a long way in restoring hope and dignity among disadvantaged children.
