North America Dema Naa, Chief Basha Iddrisu Ibrahim, has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to stay resolute in his commitment to recover stolen and looted state assets.

In a congratulatory statement issued on Wednesday, Chief Basha urged the incoming administration to utilize all legal means to retrieve misappropriated funds, properties, and other valuable state assets. He emphasized the importance of prosecuting those involved in such crimes to uphold justice and accountability.

The traditional leader noted that many Ghanaians voted for Mr. Mahama in the December 7 Presidential Election because of his promise to launch the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative, aimed at reclaiming assets lost to corruption.

“Your government must live up to the massive expectations of the Ghanaian public by fulfilling the mandate entrusted to you,” Chief Basha stated.

The Dema Naa, a prominent traditional leader of the Dagbon community in North America, also outlined key areas he believes should be prioritized by the new administration. These include economic growth, job creation, poverty alleviation, good governance, and youth empowerment through skills training and entrepreneurship development.

“As you prepare to take over the mantle of leadership, I urge you, Mr. President, to prioritize policies that promote economic growth, transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. Invest in the Ghanaian youth and deliver on your promises,” he added.

Chief Basha also called on the President-elect to focus on infrastructure development and fostering national unity to ensure sustainable progress.

In response to his pledge, President-elect Mahama has already established a five-member ORAL preparatory team. The team will gather information from the public and other sources on suspected acts of corruption as part of efforts to lay the groundwork for the initiative.

Ghanaians await the incoming government’s actions to fulfill its promises and restore confidence in public institutions.
