The Paramount Chief of Sagnarigu, Naa Bapre Sagnarinaa Ambassador Yakubu Abdullai, has urged the people of Dagbon to revive the tradition of community storytelling as a way of safeguarding the rich culture and values of the Dagomba people.

Speaking at a storytelling event held at the Sagnarigu Palace, Naa Bapre Sagnarinaa highlighted the vital role of oral traditions in passing down Dagbanli history, customs, and moral values to the younger generation. He stressed that such initiatives are key to protecting local heritage and countering the growing influence of foreign cultures.

“Organizing regular storytelling gatherings in our communities will not only entertain but also educate our children about who they are and where they come from,” he said. “This will help prevent them from being overly influenced by Western culture at the expense of our own.”

As part of the event, the Paramount Chief presented awards to the top three storytellers, praising their creativity and dedication to keeping Dagbon’s oral tradition alive.

The ceremony drew traditional leaders, community members, and cultural enthusiasts who celebrated the enduring power of storytelling in preserving identity and heritage.
