Betway identifies 24 talented young footballers from the North to support

Twenty-four (24) talented young football players in the northern region demonstrated their professional competency in the on going Betway Talent Search.

The talent search which is aimed at unearthing grass root football talent after the selection process picked  24 out of the 500  in the northern region.

A total of eight players from the 24 are expected to be drafted into four Ghana Premier League clubs.

A panel of coaches and ex- Ghana internationals will do the  scouting.

The Talent Search competition has the former Black Stars captain, technical coordinator for the national football team and official brand ambassador for Betway Ghana, Stephen
Appiah as head. Grass root football, according to Betway, takes  talented young footballers to places in the world.

At a media briefing in Tamale, a head of the Talent Search trials in Tamale, Mr. Mohammed Gargo, an ex-international who is part of the scouting team indicated that, “Projects like these give aspiring professional footballers the opportunity to exhibit their talents and make it to the top.”

Mr Gargo noted that the northern region was blessed with a lot of Ghanaian international footballers and there are still more in the region.

“I was one like those yet to be identified and is possible they can even be more talented then me,” Mr Cargo stated. He assured that even though there will be so much pressure on him during the process, he won’t be biased. The selection will be based on talent, he added.

Betway Ghana Marketing and Brand Manager, Mr. Kwabena Opong Nkrumah  told journalists, the talent identified will be get exposure. The boys, he added, will also be  groomed to get professional and tangible contract to better their lives.

Mr. Maxwell Konadu explained that  every player signed must go through the local area. The coaches and ex international players Mr Maxwell said will use less then 15 minutes play on the field to identify a good player.

Betway director of operations, Mr Rex Danquah Jnr, explained that after the selection, there will be a house session where coaches, a psychologist and a nutritionist will provide professional service.

“Everything we do is for the benefit of the boys,” he said. “The whole search for talent is also to support the kids develop their football talent to the fullest. It takes less then 15 minutes to identify a good player The passes, control of the ball and intelligent in the field counts.”

The talented players in Ghana are always from poor homes and Betway is targeting those ones to improve their economic standards, Mr Godfried Aduobe stated.

Mr Shaibu Abdul Rashid went home with a new motor bike. He got 25 points using 23 minutes to beat other competitors at the Northern School of Business (NOBISCO) training pitch on Saturday.
