Tamale: Two dead, three others hurt after electric shock following heavy downpour

 

 

 

 

 

Two people were electrocuted Thursday evening after lightning struck a “container shop” during a heavy rain storm, according to authorities. The two were declared dead at the Tamale Teaching Hospital Thursday where they were rushed after the strike, officials added.

All in all, authorities said a total of five persons suffered electric shock at “Glass,” a popular food joint close to the Tamale main taxi rank as a result of the grinding that occurred in the shop and were rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital where three of them were admitted and two declared dead.  Among the victims were two men, two women and a kid.

Eye witnesses who spoke to Zaa news team at the scene said the victims were unconscious when they fell into the drainage after they were shock by the grinding. They also said the kid drowned in the drainage and they suspect he had already lost his life at the time he was brought out. However, his death is yet to be confirmed by medical authorities.

The heavy downpour which lasted for more than 30 minutes flooded several areas in Tamale.
