The Acting Northern Regional Director of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Mr. Yussif Fusheini, has paid a courtesy call on the Ndan Yaa Naa, Overlord of Dagbon, to formally announce his assumption of office and seek the blessings and support of the Dagbon traditional authority.

Mr. Fusheini, accompanied by senior officials of the EPA, said the visit was part of his ongoing familiarisation tour and emphasized the need for strong collaboration between state institutions and traditional leadership in safeguarding the environment.

He noted that effective environmental management requires the active participation of traditional rulers, particularly in communities where customs and traditions significantly influence land use and natural resource practices.

“I considered it necessary to formally introduce myself to the Ndan Yaa Naa and seek his blessings as I begin this responsibility. Traditional authorities are key partners in environmental protection, and their support will greatly enhance our work in the Northern Region,”
Mr. Fusheini stated.

He assured the Overlord of his commitment to professionalism, transparency, and inclusiveness, adding that the EPA under his leadership would scale up public education, community engagement, and enforcement of environmental regulations across the region.

In his response, the Ndan Yaa Naa congratulated Mr. Fusheini on his appointment and welcomed him to the Gbewaa Palace. He urged the Acting Regional Director to lead with integrity and uphold high ethical standards in the discharge of his duties.

“As a leader, you must be an example for others to follow. When you live and work with integrity, discipline, and fairness, it will ensure peace and a smooth running of the Environmental Protection Authority in the region,” the Overlord advised.

The Ndan Yaa Naa further encouraged the EPA to strengthen collaboration with chiefs and community leaders to tackle pressing environmental challenges, including indiscriminate waste disposal, deforestation, and illegal mining—issues that continue to threaten livelihoods in the Northern Region.

The visit concluded with prayers and goodwill messages for Mr. Fusheini as he begins his tenure as Acting Regional Director.
