Acute Kidney Injury Patient Appeals for Public Support for Treatment

A 34-year-old woman, Zulaiha Adam, is appealing to the public and philanthropists for financial support to enable her continue life-saving treatment after being diagnosed with multiple severe medical conditions.

Madam Adam was initially admitted to the SDA Hospital but was later referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further management after her condition worsened.

According to a medical report from the hospital, she was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia complicated by placenta abruptio, acute kidney injury (AKI), and suspected hypovolemic shock.

The condition required an emergency hysterotomy after placenta abruptio resulted in intrauterine fetal demise at 27 weeks of gestation.

The report, signed by Obstetrics and Gynecology specialists Dr Dieu-Donnee Anyekase and Dr Iddrisu Baba, stated that following the surgery, Madam Zulaiha developed reduced urine output and worsening kidney function, which led to the diagnosis of severe acute kidney injury.

She is currently receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital and requires continued intensive medical and surgical care, including dialysis, medications, blood transfusions, and other specialized procedures.

Recent laboratory investigations also indicate severe renal impairment, with her creatinine level rising to 1686 µmol/L, alongside moderate anemia, according to the medical report.

Although doctors say she is currently stable, her condition remains critical and requires ongoing specialized care to improve her chances of recovery.

However, the patient and her relatives say they are unable to afford the high cost of treatment, including essential medications and surgical materials.

They are therefore appealing to philanthropists, organizations, and the general public for urgent financial assistance to support her ongoing treatment. Her family believes that with the necessary support, Madam Zulaiha Adam will be able to continue her treatment and recover from the life-threatening condition.
