Adjusting your diet will not cure stomach ulcers (peptic ulcer), but eating certain foods and avoiding others can help ease symptoms and may help with the healing process. So says a nutritionist at Right to Know consultancy, Mr. Divine Eli-Cophie.
According to the nutritionist, if you have peptic ulcer disease, proper treatment relies on modern medicine, but diet and stress reduction are also powerful allies. Mr. Eli-Cophie who was speaking in an exclusive interview with Zaa News noted that heavy alcohol consumption, taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID), having inadequate nutrition, in addition to H. pylori infections, are all thought to increase ulcer development.
Mr. Eli Cophie further mentioned stress, severe starvation, consumption of spicy foods, smoking, and other metabolic problems as some of the causes of stomach ulcer. Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) is a break in the lining of the stomach, first part of the small intestine or occasionally the lower esophagus.
An ulcer in the stomach he says is known as a gastric ulcer while that in the first part of the intestines is known as a duodenal ulcer. Touching on the signs and symptoms of the disease, the nutritionist mentioned abdominal pain, loss of appetite and heartburns as some of the symptoms of peptic ulcer.
He therefore advised and encouraged the general public and patients with peptic ulcer to be mindful of what they eat in order to live a healthier happy life.
