A group of 10 masked robbers armed with guns, metal bars and cutlasses on Saturday at about 6.30 a.m. attacked a Naagami fuel filling station at Kanshegu near Savelugu, killing one man and severely wounding two others, police said.
According to authorities, the robbbers tied up the station’s security guard Mr. Mohammed Alhassan and another man, Mr. Osman, with ropes and subjected them to severe beatings. They then broke into the office, damaged the safe and stole money.
Mr. Alhassan who suffered a cut to his left arm lodged a complaint with the police. He was accompanied to the precinct by the manager of the fuel station, Mr. Musah Iddrisu and a farmer. After the robbers left the scene, the victims were able to untie themselves and rushed Osman who sustained serious injuries to Savelugu Municipal Hospital where he is on admission for treatment. Mr. Alhassan was treated and discharged.
On their return to the fuel station, they said they found a driver, Mr. Sayibu Idi Amin, aged 52, who had parked his club beer articulator vehicle with registration NO. GN 3163_ 09 to take a breakrest dead with his hands tied behind his back. Both his legs were also tied together. His body was removed and deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital morgue for preservation, identification and autopsy. The robbers also broke the front right side door glass of the articulator truck.
The northern regional police PRO ASP Mohammed Yussif Tanko who confirmed the incident said the police cannot clearly identify how the deceased died, but added that blood was oozing from the deceased nose. Police suspect he might have been hit in the head with an object.
This is the second time a fuel station has come under attack around Savelugu municipal area. In 2016, armed men in military uniform stormed two Star Oil fuel stations near Savelugu and make away with their sales.
