Light the world campaign launched in Tamale; over 800 families provided with food items

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has launched its Light The World campaign in Tamale. The campaign started since 2016 and has since evolved into a cherished Christmas tradition Annually where members of the church come together with friends and neighbors to relieve each other’s burdens and commemorate the birth and teachings of Jesus Christ through acts of service.

During the campaign period, members will extend invitations to all to join them in expressing their love for the Savior through ‘25 actionable ways in 25 days,’ offering daily suggestions to brighten the lives of God’s children.

The theme for this year is “Let Your Light Shine.”  Speaking at the launch held at Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, Area president of the Africa West Area Presidency, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Sanits, Elder S. Gifford Nielson said this year, the church focus is on emphasizing the importance of loving our neighbors.

The objective Elder Gifford explained is to foster kindness and harmony within communities and among neighbors, echoing the sentiment of ‘Peace, goodwill toward men’ (Luke 2:14).

Light the World 2023 Elder Gifford said was also to encourage everyone to participate, aiming to ensure that people feel acknowledged, included, and cared for. 

Over eight hundred needy members within the Tamale Metropolis and its surroundings, including persons with disability selected by community leaders received parcels of food containing rice, cooking oil and chicken.

More countries and communities Elder Gifford revealed will be involved, and a daily Christmas countdown will be showcased on various media platforms, accompanied by prompts encouraging acts of kindness to illuminate someone’s world each day. light this Christmas through both worship and service.

He encouraged all to cultivate a strong internal desire to do good and understand that hands-on experiences can open hearts and minds. Elder Gifford advised all to seek ordinary, yet meaningful ways to express love, kindness, and invite others to experience Christ’s light and love during the festive season.

Deputy Director at the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly in charge of Tamale Sub-Metro, Mr Elijah Fant who read metropolitan chief executive speech assured the church of maximum care and security throughout their campaign period.

He said for peace to prevail in the world there was the need for tolerance and acceptance of each other in the society.
