An intelligence-led joint security operation led by National Security (NS) in the Northern Region has resulted in the arrest of 72 persons in Tamale.
The suspects, including 16 females and 56 males, the majority of whom are foreigners, were picked up during the operation. Deputy Northern Regional Security Coordinator, Mr Alhassan Suleman told the media the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to address emerging security concerns, criminal activities, and public safety issues in certain locations in Tamale.
A screening and verification process Mr Alhasssan said was initially conducted by National Security before the suspects were handed over to the Northern Regional Police Command and subsequently returned to National Security for further screening.
Security operatives the deputy security coordinator said carried out swoops at brothels engaged in commercial sex activities involving sex workers and their pimps.

Some of the suspects, according to National Security, claimed they were at the brothels to watch football.
He stated that the activities under investigation may be linked to individuals involved in terrorism, criminal acts, immoral conduct, and possible immigration infractions.
The NS he added believes there is sufficient evidence to link some of the suspects to suspected terrorist cells and says it will ensure public safety and prevent the infiltration of terrorists into society.
Individuals found to have engaged in any criminal activity he explained will be dealt with in accordance with the law. Almost all the female suspects, according to National Security, are Nigerian nationals, while the majority of the remaining suspects are Ghanaians.
