Authorities at Anbariya Islamic Senior High School are appealing to the government and the National Disaster Management Organisation for urgent assistance after a rainstorm ripped off the roofs of several classrooms and dormitories.

The incident occurred on Thursday at about 9:30 p.m., while students were engaged in their evening preparatory studies.

Speaking to Zaa News, the headmaster of the school, Mr Ibrahim Dokurugu, said the sudden storm caused panic on campus, forcing students to run for their lives as strong winds tore through parts of the school infrastructure.

He explained that some of the dormitories were severely affected, leaving many students and their personal belongings exposed to the open after the roofs were ripped off by the wind.

According to the headmaster, teachers quickly intervened to assist the students and ensure their safety during the incident.

Mr. Dokurugu noted that the destruction has created serious accommodation and classroom challenges for the school.

He warned that if urgent support is not provided, it could affect preparations to receive Form One students who are expected to report to school this weekend.

School authorities are therefore calling on the government, NADMO, and other stakeholders to urgently intervene to repair the damaged structures and restore normal academic activities at the school.

The Girls’ Senior Prefect, Abdul Wahab Salma Suhiyini, also recounted the incident, saying students initially remained in their classrooms hoping the rainstorm would subside so they could safely return to their dormitories.

However, she said they later realized that their dormitory had been badly damaged by the storm. As a result, some of the students became frightened and refused to return to the dormitory for fear of being trapped if another storm occurred.

She therefore echoed the headmaster’s appeal to the government, NADMO, and other stakeholders to urgently support the school to repair the damaged structures and restore safe accommodation for students.
