Hope has been rekindled for a young orphan, Rukaya from Bamvim Dohani, whose dream of attaining secondary education was almost shattered due to financial hardship.
Rukaya, who gained admission to Kumbungu Senior High School, faced the painful reality of abandoning her education after struggling to raise funds for her prospectus items, PTA levy, and other essential needs. With no support in sight, she left for Ejura to live with her mother and engage in manual labour — effectively giving up on her dream of going to school.
Her story took a dramatic turn when Afa Nurudeen learned of her plight and drew the attention of the production team of Dakulo Lahabali Kpana Saha on Zaa TV — a popular weekend political and social talk show broadcast every Saturday.
Deeply moved by her situation, the show’s host, Alhassan Yushawu Jahanfo, and his team quickly reached out to Rukaya and invited her, together with Afa Nurudeen, to share her story live on air.
In a remarkable display of compassion, within just 10 minutes of the live broadcast, viewers and well-wishers contributed a total of GHC 3,500 to support Rukaya’s education and give her another chance to return to school.
The funds were immediately handed over to Afa Nurudeen to facilitate the purchase of all required items. By the following Monday, every item on her prospectus had been bought, her PTA dues paid, and her admission fully processed. After all expenses, a balance of GHC 220 was presented to Rukaya for her personal upkeep.
Rukaya has since successfully reported to Kumbungu Senior High School, filled with gratitude and renewed determination to pursue her dreams.
