The Zabzugu District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. George Lakoba Tanei, has commended security agencies, traditional authorities, and residents for maintaining peace and stability in the district while urging continued collaboration to protect lives and livelihoods.‎‎

Speaking during the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Zabzugu District Assembly, Hon. Tanei noted that no major incidents of insecurity had been recorded in recent months, describing the situation as “a blessing and a product of community vigilance.

The district has remained peaceful, thanks to the vigilance of our security agencies and the cooperation of residents,” the DCE stated. He also attributed the relative calm to divine protection.

‎‎He revealed that a new District Police Commander has been posted to Zabzugu as part of government efforts to strengthen security and curb crime.‎‎

Water and Sanitation Gains

‎‎The DCE announced that the Assembly, in partnership with World Vision Ghana, had drilled a borehole at Tayondo awaiting mechanization and constructed two 8-seater KVIP toilets at Zabzugu D/A and Vokpia Primary Schools.‎‎

Contracts, he added, have been signed for the drilling and mechanization of five additional boreholes across other communities to improve access to clean and safe drinking water.‎‎

Farm Losses and Climate Impact

‎‎On agriculture, Hon. Tanei expressed concern that erratic rainfall this year had severely affected farming activities, resulting in significant crop losses across several communities.‎‎

He called on the Department of Agriculture to intensify education on climate-smart farming practices, including the adoption of drought-resistant and early-maturing seed varieties to mitigate future losses.‎‎“

The unpredictable rainfall has shown that we must plan better. Our farmers must be supported to adapt to changing weather patterns,” he urged.‎‎

The DCE further noted that the government’s Feed Ghana Programme seeks to cushion affected farmers and promote food security in the coming farming season.‎‎

Farmers’ Day and Community Cooperation‎‎

Hon. Tanei also appealed to Assembly Members to support preparations for the 2025 Farmers’ Day celebrations, aimed at recognizing outstanding farmers at both district and regional levels.‎‎

He concluded by thanking Assembly Members, security agencies, and departmental heads for their dedication and teamwork, calling on all stakeholders to “remain resolute in decisions that will improve the living conditions of the people.”‎‎
