The Honourable Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka today paid a courtesy call on His Royal Majesty, Ya-Na Mahama Abukari II, Overlord of Dagbon, at the Gbewa Palace in Yendi, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between Government and traditional authorities in the Northern Region.

The visit, marked by mutual respect and a shared commitment to peace, provided a platform for discussions on enhancing regional security and promoting national unity.

In his remarks, Ya-Na Mahama Abukari II reaffirmed his steadfast support for Government’s initiatives to maintain peace and stability in the Northern Region and beyond. He underscored the importance of addressing conflicts through lawful and constructive means and urged all stakeholders to work collectively in fostering unity and social cohesion.

“The pursuit of peace is a shared responsibility. I call on all parties to use the appropriate channels to resolve misunderstandings, and to always prioritize dialogue over division,” the Ya-Na said.

Hon. Muntaka, speaking on behalf of Government, expressed appreciation for the Ya-Na’s leadership and support, and reiterated the administration’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with traditional rulers to address security challenges and advance development.

“Traditional authorities are indispensable partners in nation-building,” Hon. Muntaka stated. “Our Ministry remains committed to deepening our collaboration with the Gbewa Palace and other traditional institutions to ensure lasting peace, in line with the vision of H.E. John Dramani Mahama for a peaceful and developed Ghana.”

The meeting, described by observers as timely and strategic, signals a renewed focus on inclusive governance and community-based peacebuilding efforts, especially in regions that have experienced historical tensions.

Hon. Muntaka’s visit to the Ya-Na is part of a broader Government initiative to engage traditional leaders in ongoing national peace and security efforts.
