The Minority Caucus in Parliament has strongly opposed the decision declaring the Kpandai parliamentary seat vacant, calling on the Speaker to immediately withdraw the directive issued by the Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror.
The call was led by the Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Hon. Frank Annoh Dompreh, who raised concerns over what he described as clear procedural breaches and a disregard for the rule of law.

Addressing the House, Hon. Annoh Dompreh argued that the decision “flies in the face of established legal and procedural standards,” insisting that Parliament must not act on the basis of a ruling whose processes, according to him, remain in dispute. It will be recalled that on Tuesday, the Clerk to Parliament wrote to the Electoral Commission (EC) notifying the Commission that the Kpandai seat had been declared vacant, following a ruling by the Tamale High Court relating to the 2024 parliamentary election in that constituency.
The Minority, however, maintains that the declaration is premature and cannot stand. They pledged to continue working with the Majority Caucus to defend democratic principles and uphold the rule of law in the House.
Tensions rose sharply in the Chamber following the Minority’s objection, leading to loud chants and disruptions. The situation prompted the First Deputy Speaker, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, who was presiding, to suspend the sitting to restore order.
