Abukari Iddrisu, popularly known as Mr. Alooma, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Northern Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the party’s upcoming internal elections.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Mr. Alooma—an experienced party stalwart—described his decision as a call to duty at a critical moment in the party’s journey toward reclaiming national power in the 2028 elections.
“The position of Regional Secretary requires someone with deep-rooted loyalty to the UP tradition, extensive knowledge and experience in party work, and the ability to connect with the various wings of the party,” he stated. “I bring on board longstanding experience in party work, effective communication, and grassroots mobilisation skills.”

Highlighting his credentials, Mr. Alooma pointed to his familiarity with the political terrain of the Northern Region and his wide social network spanning the national, regional, and constituency levels. He emphasized his commitment to inclusive leadership, mutual respect, and humility as central to his political vision.
He further underscored the need for a strategic shift in the party’s approach, warning against the dangers of complacency. “We cannot do the same thing all the time and expect different results. I come with new strategies and different approaches for the rebuilding processes,” he said.
Calling for broad-based support from polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, constituency executives, patrons, and the regional council of elders, Mr. Alooma urged the party faithful to rally behind his bid for a renewed and reenergized NPP in the north.
Mr. Alooma’s declaration adds further momentum to the ongoing internal reorganization within the NPP, as the party gears up for a highly competitive 2028 general election. He becomes the second individual to publicly express interest in this coveted regional position, following Dr. Abdul Rahaman Karim (Kpala)—a lecturer at UDS and a dedicated senior member of the NPP’s communications team—who earlier announced his intention to contest for the role of Northern Regional Secretary.
