The King of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty Ndan Ya-Naa Abukari II, has heaped praise on President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as refreshing and results-driven leadership that has rekindled hope and accelerated Ghana’s economic rebound.
A delegation of prominent Dagbon chiefs, led by the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Adolf John Mburudiba, accompanied the Yaa Naa to the Jubilee House on Friday, June 13, to extend their heartfelt congratulations to President Mahama and Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

Speaking on behalf of the Yaa Naa, Dr. Jacob Mahama commended the new administration for taking swift and bold steps to revive the economy and restore national confidence.
“Your leadership has already brought a breath of fresh air to our nation and has renewed hope and optimism in the good people of Ghana. The swift action taken to revitalise our economy and improve the lives of Ghanaians is truly commendable,” Dr. Mahama said.
He further noted that the President’s early focus on stabilising government operations had set the right tone for good governance. “Your commitment to getting the machinery of government moving without delay has set a positive tone, and we are gladdened by the promise of a brighter future that your leadership symbolises.”
The Ndan Ya-Naa also expressed confidence in President Mahama’s policies, describing them as transformative and essential for generational progress.
Responding to the warm sentiments, President Mahama expressed deep appreciation to the Yaa Naa and the people of Dagbon for their steadfast support and encouragement.
“I am truly honoured by this visit and grateful for the kind words from His Majesty,” President Mahama said. “Our government is fully committed to building a resilient economy that benefits every Ghanaian. We are focused on tackling the real issues—restoring livelihoods, ensuring accountability, and laying a strong foundation for inclusive growth.”
The President also acknowledged the vital role traditional leaders play in national cohesion and development. “The support of our traditional authorities is not only a source of encouragement, but a key partnership we rely on for community mobilisation and long-term progress,” he added.
This commendation comes at a time when key indicators of Ghana’s economy show significant recovery. According to recent reports, including a Bloomberg ranking in April 2025, the Ghanaian cedi has become the best-performing currency globally—strengthening from GH₵17 to GH₵10.20 per US dollar. Fuel prices have dropped, while several sectors are reportedly bouncing back.
The Mahama administration’s aggressive stance against corruption and efforts to restore fiscal discipline have drawn commendations from civil society and the public alike. Key measures such as halting new public projects and clearing outstanding arrears have been credited for the turnaround.
The visit, described by observers as a strong show of unity between traditional authority and state leadership, underlines the importance of collaboration in nation-building and regional development.
