The Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu has been unanimously confirmed by delegates to lead Tamale south constituency into the 2020 general elections. About 1451 delegates in the constituency made up of 1422 branch executives, 28 constituency executives and one former appointee (the candidate himself) with excitement endorsed Mr. Haruna Iddrisu Saturday afternoon at the University for Development Studies Tamale campus.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Haruna pledge to retain the sit for the NDC, promising the delegates that, his outfit will ensure the constituency is not left behind in terms development. On governance, the minority leader urged the government to as a matter of urgency see to it that, security in the Northern region is resolve.
He said the police in the region must up their game to salvage the sad situation. “Government should tackle the security situation in the Northern region, the insecurity shows that the police are not up to task and must sit up” he said.
This is the fifth primaries the minority leader has contested. He took over the Tamale south constituency sit since 2004 and has since been the Member of Parliament for the area. In 2004, 2008, 2012, the minority leader went unopposed in the primaries. This means, he never had a contender since 2004 until 2016 when he was contested but won.
