Tamale, Jan. 23, GNA — The Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Ali Adolf John, has commended officers and men of the 6 Infantry Battalion (6BN) of the Ghana Armed Forces for their professionalism and sustained contribution to peace and security in the Northern Region and the country at large.
Mr. Adolf John gave the commendation at the handing-over/taking-over ceremony of the Commanding Officer of the 6 Infantry Battalion, held at Collins Square, Kamina Barracks, on Friday.
At the ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Yao Agbeko Ankuyi handed over command of the battalion to Lieutenant Colonel Edward Kwame Anane Lumor.
The Regional Minister said the change of command was not only a routine military exercise but also an opportunity to acknowledge exemplary leadership and dedicated service.

He said Lt. Col. Ankuyi’s tenure as Commanding Officer was characterised by discipline, professionalism and unwavering commitment to national security, adding that the battalion continued to uphold the core values of the Ghana Armed Forces under his leadership.
“Today, we are not only witnessing a transfer of command, but also recognising the vital contribution of Lieutenant Colonel Ankuyi to the security and stability of the region and the nation,” he said.
On behalf of the Chiefs and people of the Northern Region, Mr. Adolf John expressed appreciation to the outgoing Commanding Officer for promoting unity, resilience and teamwork within the battalion, noting that his leadership had left a lasting legacy.
The Regional Minister expressed confidence that the standards established would be sustained and strengthened under the new Commanding Officer.
Welcoming Lieutenant Colonel Lumor, Mr. Adolf John described the appointment as a position of trust and responsibility, urging him to lead with integrity, professionalism and dedication.
He assured the new Commanding Officer of the support of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council and called on officers and men of the battalion to continue to work diligently to maintain peace and security.
The Regional Minister also urged stakeholders to remain united in safeguarding the peace and sovereignty of the country, stressing the importance of strong leadership, dedicated service and community cooperation in addressing emerging security challenges.
He wished Lt. Col. Ankuyi well in his future military assignments and reaffirmed the commitment of the Northern Region to collaborate with the Ghana Armed Forces.
The ceremony ended with a reaffirmation of loyalty to the nation and the Ghana Armed Forces.
