The Northern Regional Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Tanko Opash Bangbebu, has taken a strong swipe at the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Nanton Constituency, accusing the executives, the District Chief Executive (DCE), and the Member of Parliament (MP) of engaging in internal disputes that threaten the party’s stability and the development of the district.
Appearing on Zaa TV Ghana’s Lahabali Churu Kahagibu Saha Morning Show, Opash Bangbebu said he personally witnessed the sacrifices made by NDC members and executives during the 2024 elections, and was therefore disappointed by the current state of disunity.

“I was in Nanton during the 2024 elections. I saw how the constituency executives suffered. They did not consider who was an ordinary member or a parliamentary candidate — everybody worked,” he stated. “After suffering to win power, is this how you choose to use it? Is this the reason you were running to every corner of the constituency for support?”
He added that while his words might sound harsh, they were motivated by genuine concern for the constituency, noting that he “feels the heat in Nanton” because the party has failed to translate its electoral victory into collective governance.
Opash Bangbebu warned that the NDC risks losing credibility ahead of future primaries and general elections. “What will you tell the people next time? That ever since you were elected, you have only been fighting among yourselves? The people of Nanton will never renew your mandate if this continues,” he cautioned.
He stressed that Nanton is not a safe seat for the NDC, referencing the constituency’s electoral history. He pointed out how the party lost the seat to the NPP’s Hon. Mohammed Hardi Tuferu after a previous victory by Hon. Murtala Mohammed, saying the NDC should be focused on consolidating its gains ahead of 2028 instead of weakening its base through internal disputes.
When asked by host Alhassan Yushawu Jahanfo whether he blamed the executives, the MP, and the DCE equally, Opash Bangbebu responded in the affirmative.

He dismissed the suggestion that the leadership’s actions were part of a strategy to protect the seat, alleging instead that personal differences were undermining unity. He cited statements attributed to the DCE, Hon. Rosina Zenabu Abdul-Rahaman, who reportedly said on another Tamale-based station that her relationship with the MP was “very poor” and that she faced “distractions” in the district.
Opash Bangbebu concluded that the NDC was “destroying the party in the constituency,” claiming that 25 of the constituency executives were not working harmoniously, with only the chairman and secretary appearing to be on good terms.
“They cannot make any meaningful progress unless they put their differences aside and work in
