‎Tamale, Northern Region – The Member of Parliament-elect for the Tamale Central Constituency, Prof. Seidu Mahama Alidu, says his victory in the recent by-election is both an honor and a profound responsibility. His mandate, however, comes in the shadow of tragedy—the untimely passing of the Late Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, whose dedicated service and selfless leadership left an enduring legacy in the constituency.

‎In what he described as a deeply humbling moment, Prof. Alidu on Thursday paid a courtesy call on the revered King of Dagbon, Ndam Ya-Naa at the Gbewaa Palace, to express his gratitude for the blessings and support he received when he first declared his intention to contest the seat.

‎“By the grace of Almighty God and through the trust of the good people of Tamale Central, I have been given the rare mandate to represent them in Parliament. This is not a privilege I take lightly, for I am fully aware that the shoes I step into are those of a man who served with passion and dedication, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of selflessness and hard work,” Prof. Alidu said with emotion.

‎The King of Dagbon, in receiving the MP-elect, offered words of wisdom that struck a deep chord. He admonished him to rise to the challenge of leadership, to serve tirelessly, and to continue the unfinished journey of the late Dr. Murtala Muhammed.

‎For Prof. Alidu, those words reinforced the reality that leadership is not about occupying a position, but about embodying the spirit of sacrifice, humility, and service. “Leadership is about carrying the hopes of the people with integrity and vision,” he reflected.

‎As he prepares to take his seat in the august House of Parliament, Prof. Alidu has pledged to honor the memory of his late predecessor. “I will uphold the values of our constituency and serve with humility, dedication, and unwavering commitment,” he assured.

‎The people of Tamale Central now look to him not only as their representative, but as the torchbearer of a legacy built on passion, hard work, and selfless service—principles that defined Dr. Murtala Mohammed’s life and work.
