Zabzugu, Northern Region — The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has called on the people of Zabzugu to support government-led efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in the area. The call was made during a courtesy visit to the Paramount Chief of Zabzugu, Yelzoli-Lana Iddrisu Imoro, and his elders, as part of the Minister’s stakeholder engagement tour of the Northern Region.
The visit, which included a high-powered delegation led by the Northern Regional Minister, forms part of a broader strategy by the Interior Ministry to engage key stakeholders in advancing peace, security, and sustainable development in the region.

During the engagement at the Yelizoli Palace, Hon. Muntaka emphasized the importance of unity, dialogue, and community collaboration in resolving disputes. “Peace and stability are the foundation upon which we can build a better future for our people,” he said. “We must all commit to resolving misunderstandings through dialogue and mutual respect.”
Welcoming the Minister and his entourage, Nyab Tung Lana, who serves as the Regent of the Yelizoli Traditional Area, assured the delegation that Zabzugu enjoys relative peace. He explained that the community’s strong familial ties help in swiftly resolving misunderstandings. “Everyone in Zabzugu is related in one way or another,” he said. “So if you hear of any disturbance, give us a little time and we will resolve it quickly and amicably.”
The Regent further appealed to the Minister to support youth recruitment from Zabzugu into the security services. “This will keep our young people meaningfully engaged and disprove the saying that the devil finds work for idle hands,” he added.
The Paramount Chief, Yelzoli-Lana Iddrisu Imoro, also commended the visit and praised former President John Dramani Mahama’s initiatives to promote peace and security in the region. He reaffirmed the traditional leadership’s full support for government efforts and their ongoing commitment to peaceful coexistence.
Later in the day, the Interior Minister and the Regional Minister met with recently deployed police officers in the area. The visit was aimed at encouraging the personnel and reinforcing the government’s commitment to law and order, particularly in light of recent disputes.
Hon. Muntaka expressed gratitude for the officers’ service and announced a rotation policy to help manage stress and prevent burnout. “We are taking steps to ensure that our officers are supported, both physically and mentally,” he said.
The Minister’s visit reinforced the government’s commitment to proactive stakeholder engagement, community-driven conflict resolution, and enhanced youth empowerment as part of a long-term strategy to secure peace and development in the Northern Region.
