OSP Responds to Allegations of Vendetta in Investigation of Former Finance Minister

Tamale, June 22, 2025 — The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has firmly denied suggestions that its ongoing investigation into former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta is motivated by personal vendetta.

In a public notice issued on Saturday, June 22, the OSP responded to comments made by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Professor Ransford Gyampo, who is reported to have suggested that the probe into Mr. Ofori-Atta is being driven by personal animus rather than legitimate legal grounds.

The OSP, in its statement, emphasized that its investigations are grounded in credible allegations of corruption and corruption-related offenses. These include allegations of abuse of office for profit, particularly surrounding the multi-year contract awarded to Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML).

According to the OSP, Professor Gyampo’s remarks are particularly surprising given that he personally contacted the Office and sent messages regarding the operations of SML at a time when the OSP, in collaboration with National Security, was executing a lawful search at the company’s premises.

“The OSP welcomes constructive criticism,” the statement noted, “but cautions public officials against interfering in ongoing investigations—whether directly or through unfounded public statements.” It warned that such actions could compromise the integrity of the justice system and undermine national efforts to combat corruption.

The Office reiterated its commitment to conducting independent and impartial investigations, urging all stakeholders to allow the legal process to unfold without interference.

The probe into Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta marks one of the most high-profile cases the OSP has taken on in recent months, particularly in the context of public concern over transparency and accountability in the awarding of government contracts.
