Tamale residents threaten protest over traffic light left faulty for six years.

Residents of Tamale are calling on city authorities to urgently repair the long-faulty “Agric Traffic Light,” which has remained dysfunctional for six years. The intersection, crucial for both vehicular and pedestrian movement, has become a hotspot for accidents, with locals reporting at least two incidents daily—some resulting in severe injuries and fatalities.

Community members have expressed growing frustration over the dangerous conditions, as the absence of a functioning traffic signal has led to chaotic traffic situations where drivers often disregard caution.A concerned resident, Mohammed Nindoo, has taken it upon himself to volunteer as an unofficial traffic director, managing traffic flow to prevent further mishaps.

In an interview with GBC News, he shared his distress over the frequent accidents, adding that he has personally assisted in transporting victims to the hospital.“I picked an old man here and took him to the hospital; he had a fracture in his thigh. On the same day, a woman was knocked down and killed while riding to church. Accidents happen here daily, even with police presence,” he lamented.

Mr. Nindoo further revealed that multiple complaints have been made to the assembly, Urban Roads, and the Regional Coordinating Council, but no action has been taken.A presenter at Diamond FM, Ewurama Attoh, who also resides in the area, echoed Nindoo’s concerns. She recounted several distressing incidents she had witnessed at the intersection and revealed that she has made numerous attempts to get authorities to fix the traffic light, all to no avail.

The prolonged failure to repair the traffic light has sparked outrage among residents. Some have taken to social media to voice their displeasure, while others are considering staging a demonstration to demand urgent action from authorities.
