Tamale, Northern Region – July 30, 2025

In a bold and symbolic move to accelerate continental integration, former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Hon. Ras Mubarak, is set to embark on a historic road expedition through 39 African countries, advocating for a united, visa-free, and borderless Africa.

Taking to Facebook to unveil the initiative, the outspoken politician and Pan-African advocate announced plans to travel 40,000 kilometers in 163 days, covering the continent from west to east and from north to south.

“We have absolutely no reason not to succeed as Africans. Support our journey by road through 39 African countries. 600hrs of driving, 40,000km in 163 days,” Hon. Mubarak stated.“Our objective is to meet with our heads of government and call for a united and a visa free /borderless Africa now.”

At the heart of the campaign is a powerful call for continental unity—a vision rooted in the ideals of Pan-Africanism and aimed at dismantling the colonial-era barriers that continue to hinder free movement, trade, and collaboration among African states.

The journey, which begins on August 18, will take Hon. Mubarak and his team through a diverse mix of African nations including Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Central African Republic, Chad, Niger, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, and eventually back to Ghana.

This expansive route cuts across every major sub-region of the continent—West, Central, East, Southern, and North Africa—making the expedition one of the most extensive and ambitious road campaigns in recent African history.

Hon. Mubarak is rallying citizens, civil society organizations, and leaders across the continent to support the campaign using the hashtags #OpenAfrica and #OpenOpportunities. He is also calling on individuals and institutions to contribute in any way possible—logistically or financially—to ensure the success of the journey.

“Inaction is not an option. Let’s unite for the betterment of our people,” he declared.

The initiative comes at a time when the African Union’s African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is gaining traction, but practical barriers—such as visa restrictions and poor cross-border infrastructure—continue to stifle the dream of seamless African integration.Observers see Mubarak’s campaign as a grassroots-led complement to ongoing continental frameworks and treaties, aimed at pressing political leaders to walk the talk on Africa’s integration agenda.

The campaign has already garnered praise from Pan-African circles and development actors who see the expedition as both a symbolic pilgrimage and a strategic advocacy effort.

As the countdown to August 18 begins, eyes across the continent will be watching—not just for the journey’s completion, but for its capacity to inspire action toward a more connected and self-determined Africa.
