The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University for Development Studies (UDS) have extended warm congratulations to the UDS Men’s Football Team following their qualification to the finals of the FISU University World Cup Football in Dalian, China.

The UDS team’s remarkable feat makes them the sole representatives of Africa in the prestigious global university football competition — a historic milestone for the institution, Ghana, and the continent.

In a statement signed by its National Secretary, Professor Eliasu Mumuni, UTAG described the team’s success as a testament to “dedication, discipline, teamwork, and resilience,” stressing that the victory demonstrates the immense potential of Ghana’s student-athletes to excel on the world stage when given the necessary support.

“As you prepare for the finals, UTAG National stands united with the entire nation and Africa in rallying behind you. We are confident that the perseverance and determination that have carried you this far will propel you to greater victory,” the statement said.

The association also commended the technical bench for their leadership, describing the achievement as “a source of pride for the Ghanaian academic community and an inspiration to public universities across the country.”

The UDS SRC, Tamale Campus, also released a statement celebrating the team’s historic run, highlighting their dedication, teamwork, and fighting spirit.

“Your success has brought pride not only to UDS but to Ghana and Africa as a whole. We are solidly behind you as you prepare for the final match. Go make history and bring the trophy home!” the SRC noted.
