‎Zabzugu DCE Hails Damba Gala as Symbol of Peace and Unity‎

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Zabzugu, Hon. George Lakoba Tanei, has praised the 2025 Damba Homecoming Football Gala held at Yelzoli, describing it as an unprecedented event that has showcased peace and unity in the district.

‎‎Addressing the gathering after the matches on Tuesday, Hon. Gorge Lakoba said the occasion was the first of its kind in the history o8f the district and signaled to the nation and the world that Zabzugu was a peaceful place. “With the participating teams, I think there is no winner and there’s no loser,” he noted.‎‎

The DCE commended the commitment of President John Dramani Mahama to sports, explaining that the President recognizes the role of sports in promoting peace, unity, and good health. He added that the Regent of Yelzoli, Tung-Lana Alhaji Muhammad Ibn Umar, and the Member of Parliament for Zabzugu, Hon. Alhaji Alhassan Umar, had also demonstrated strong dedication to sports development in the district.‎‎

Hon. George Lakoba urged residents to sustain such events, stressing that peace and unity were essential for development. He cited institutions such as schools, hospitals, Zabzugu Senior High School, and the District Assembly as developments made possible through peace.

“Let us emulate our elders because tomorrow you are the future leaders of our mother district and Ghana as a whole. Let us refrain from drug abuse—it is a canker. Let us also refrain from beating war drums and instead become peace ambassadors,” he advised.‎‎

He disclosed that earlier in the day, he, the MP, and the NDC Constituency Chairman had paid a courtesy call on the King of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty Ndan Ya-Naa, at the Gbewaa Palace. According to him, the Ya-Naa delivered a similar message, emphasizing the need for peace and development in Zabzugu.‎‎

Hon. George Lakoba also lauded the participation of both Konkomba and Dagomba teams in the football gala, describing it as a practical demonstration of unity. He appealed to the youth and sports enthusiasts to continue embracing such unifying activities, reminding them that the future leadership of the district and the nation would soon rest in their hands.‎
