The chiefs in the northern region have committed two thousand Ghana cedis (2,000) for teaching and learning of science and technology.
The money was donated to the state of the art private science and technology facility at Kuga in the Yendi municipality.
The acting President of the Dagbon traditional council Kampakuya Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani made the donation on behalf of the chiefs in the Dagbon kingdom at a ceremony to inaugurate an ultra modern basic school college in Yendi.
The college is expected to provide quality science education for the children in the eastern corridor. The chiefs say science and technology can help students to understand and make ideas they were previously denied.
Technology the chiefs’ emphasised makes the learning process more interactive, interesting memorable and has propelled other nations to greater heights; hence the need for children in the northern region to take I C T seriously.
Meanwhile, the president John Dramani Mahama has also presented 30 computers and its accessories and 12 dust bins to the college.
The Deputy Minister of Environment Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Alfred Sugri Tia who made the presentation on behalf of the president reiterated government’s commitment to improving science and technology; adding that it is crucial and central to resolving economic, social and environmental problems that make current development paths unstable.
Dr Tia who is also the Member of Parliament for Gambaga-Nalerigu constituency said, the establishment of 7A’s college in the northern region is laudable initiative and will build the capacity of professionals in the area of science.
