A public health Nurse at the Tamale West Hospital, Hajia Ayishetu Adjei is advocating for prospective couples to voluntarily test for HIV/AIDS, Syphilis and Hepatitis diseases prior to getting married.
According to her, it will help couples know their health status and go a long way to strengthening their marriage.
She said many devorce cases have rooted from health status and encourage couples and potential couples to go for the free voluntary test for their own sake. She expressed optimism that it will help reduce fears among couples who are suspicious about their health status.
Hajia Ayishetu stated this when a coalition of Unit Committee members in Tamale metropolitan assembly embarked on a clean-up exercise in the Tamale West Hospital.
Hajia Ayishetu lauded the committee about the idea and appealed to them to encourage people in their communities to cultivate the habit of good sanitation practices.
Hajia Ayishetu on behalf of the Tamale West District hospital management team commended the coalition and expressed the hope that they will continue their effort towards fighting malaria in the metropolis.
On the nurse-patients relation, Hajia Ayishetu urged patients to exercise restraint and follow laid down processes at the Out Patient Department (OPDs) in the various health centres to avoid unnecessary confrontations with health personnel at the various hospitals and clinics.
The exercise according to the coalition, forms part of their role as local government actors to ensure that health centres in the metropolis are clean to prevent malaria and its related diseases.
The coalition in the early hours of Saturday collected wastes in and around the Tamale West Hospital as well as clear weeds around the hospital.
The unit committee members also appealed to the hospital authorities to ensure that there is good nurse-patients relationship in their quest to providing quality health care to the people.
Alhassan Issahaku, the public relations officer of the unit committee member’s coalition said they are ready to collaborate with stakeholders in sanitation to get rid of filth in the metropolis.
Mr Alhassan said, the committee intends on carrying out similar exercises at Wamali Hospital and other health centres.
