The Shandong Group of companies has announced their determination to establish an innovative manufacturing and assembling plant of farming equipment in Tamale. In addition, it would also establish similar plants in other parts of the country such as Kumasi and Accra to inject modern technology into Ghana’s agriculture sector.
The plant according to the company will produce wheeler tracks, Motor Kings, Bowler Taxies, power Tiller Machine that can be used for sanitation and agriculture purposes.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Shandong group of companies, Jiang Wuzheng disclosed this when he led a nine -member delegation to pay a courtesy call on the northern regional minister Bede Ziedeng at the regional coordinating council in Tamale.
The delegation was comprised of four Chinese Nationals and five Ghanaians who were mainly experts into improving technology in farming.
The national coordinator of Local Enterprise and Skills Development Program (LESDEP) Adem Gariba hinted his outfit’s intention to partner with the Shandong Group of companies.
According to Mr Gariba Shandong’s companies have immense track records in the international arena and expressed optimism that it would exhibit similar expertise in Ghana if the Ghana government and authorities in the region give them the maximum support and cooperation.
The Shandong group’s CEO who also doubles as Chairman of the groups commended Ghana and the northern region for rapid socio-economic progress it has attained in improving the living conditions of the citizenry.
Mr Jiang observed that Ghana still uses outmoded farming practices which China was using some 30 years ago and urged Ghanaian authorities to take pragmatic approach in employing technology methods to achieve it derive for agriculture agenda.
The Shandong would also embark on commercializing of rice cultivation aimed at producing rice for export. Mr Jiang attributed youth reluctance to go into farming to lack of technology deriving expertise among the youth.
He said plans are underway by the Chinese government with their Ghanaian counterparts to transfer farming technology know-how to help boost Ghana’s quest to improving agriculture based economy.
The Northern Regional Minister Bede Ziedeng assured the Shandong group of companies of government’s readiness to accept the Shandong companies intent initiatives.
Mr Ziedeng said when the project starts, it would significantly address the unemployment problem confronting the youth in the region.
