The Management of Ghana Water Company Limited, (GWCL), in the Northern region has plans to shut down its Nawuni raw water in- point and treatment plant in Dalung in the Kumbungu district. The shutdown according to GWCL was due to the spillage of Bagre Dam which begins today, 27th, 2021.
GWCL in a statement expressed its regrets for the inconveniences the shutdown may cause the public, especially consumers.
The statement signed by Northern Regional Communication Manager, Nii Abbey Nicolas said it’s information on the Spillage of the Bagre and Kompienga Dams compelled them to Temporary Shut-Down Production for the Protection of its Equipment and Installations.
The Standard Operating Procedure, Mr Nii explained is that the maximum feet of the Intake
Dam should not exceed 36 feet but as at close of work, Thursday, August 26, 2021, the level of the In-take Dam stood at 31.50 feet even without the expected Bagre
Dam spillage.
GWCL, Mr Nii said cannot operate beyond the maximum operating feet because it will put the Water Facility in a
jeopardy which could lead to the entire collapse of the already over stretched
equipment and installations. The statement is therefore advising public and consumers to store and conserve enough water during this period.
