Details emerging from the Tamale-Kintampo road accident indicates that the death toll has risen to about sixty (60) , according to police.
The Metro Mass Transit (MMT) Bus with registration number AS 7131 Y crashed head on with a KiA truck craying tomatoes from Bolgatanaga in the Upper East Region.
Several others trapped in the mangled bus sustained various degrees of injuries and have been spread across the major hospitals in the Brong Ahafo region.
Police investigations are still underway to ascertain the cause of the accident.
Various accounts from few survivors are however attributing the accident to a break failure of the metro mass along their journey which the driver whose body was discovered on Thursday afternoon was not able to repair it.
Meanwhile, the president John Dramani Mahama has expressed deep concern over the death of the 53 people following a gory road accident.
Hours after the unfortunate accident, the president who tweeted, ” Receiving the sad news of an accident involving a M.M.T Bus on the Kintampo-Tamale road. Condolences to those have lost loved ones”.
President further tweeted, “Emergency services working to attend to injured passengers in the M.M.T Bus accident on the Kintampo-Tamale road. Very sad News”.
