A 42-year-old farmer Fuseini Mbieni, have been killed by an errant elephant at Nambotre near Gbintiri in the East Mamprusi Municipal Gambaga District of the North East Region.
The North East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Robert Anabiik Angmain who confirmed the incident said the farmer was on his farm when the three stray elephants appeared.
The deceased, ASP Angmain explained attempted to ward off the elephants from destroying his crops but unfortunately one of the elephants attacked him with its trunk and stamped on him severally leading to his death.
Police at Gbintiri, a boarder community was informed by the Assemblyman of the Gbintiri Electoral area.
A team of police personnel from the Gambaga District he added were dispatched to Gbintiri to investigate the incident.
The body of the deceased farmer the North East Police spokesperson said was sent to the Baptist Medical centre in Nalerigu and examined by Dr Felix Hayu of the in the presence of the deceased family.
The medical officer explained the cause of death as Massive Polytrauma and crush injuries and the body of the deceased farmer was subsequently released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic religion.
Angry residents mounted a search for the elephants and managed to killed one and chopped off the body dinner.
