The double-category victory earned Yumzaa the region’s top journalistic honour, which recognises outstanding performance and excellence across various reporting categories.
His achievement places him among the region’s distinguished journalists whose work has made significant contributions to public-interest journalism, accountability and development.
Yumzaa’s latest recognition adds to an impressive record of achievements at the regional awards. In 2023, he won the Disability Reporter of the Year award, while in 2024, he received honours for disability reporting and tourism, arts and culture reporting.
His success in education and health reporting highlights the critical role of journalism in drawing attention to challenges in essential public services, promoting accountability and amplifying the concerns of communities.
Speaking on his achievement, Yumzaa described the recognition as both an honour and a responsibility to continue producing impactful stories that address public concerns and contribute to societal development.

“I am grateful for this recognition. Winning the Education Reporter of the Year and Health Reporter of the Year awards and being named Northern Regional Journalist of the Year is a great honour. It also challenges me to work harder, remain committed to ethical journalism and continue telling stories that make a difference in the lives of people,” he said.
He also acknowledged the support of Zaa Multimedia’s management and staff, as well as the sources and communities whose experiences inform his reporting.
“This achievement is not mine alone. I appreciate everyone who has supported my work, and I dedicate this recognition to the communities whose stories deserve to be heard,” he added.
The GJA Northern Regional Awards celebrate journalistic excellence and recognise media practitioners whose work contributes to public awareness, accountability and development across Northern Ghana.
Yumzaa’s latest achievement further reinforces his commitment to impactful journalism, particularly in the education, health and social development sectors.
