Two people have sustained gunshot wounds while another also sustained machete wounds in a renewed chieftaincy clashes in Manguli Kukuo in the Tamale metropolis.
A house has also been burnt down completely during the clashes last night. The two gunshot victims have been treated and discharged from the Tamale Teaching Hospital while the other person is still receiving treatment.
The dispute between two factions as to who wills the customary power and authority to enskin Manguli Kukuo Naa has been lingering for some time now with both sides taking entrenched positions leading to pointing of accused fingers.
The incident started when one of the claimants to the Kukuo skin, Alhassan Wumbee went to the area with unregistered vehicles to perform some rituals.
The chief of Banvim who presides over Manguli and its surrounding communities is reported to have enskinned both the Manguli chief and subsequently the Kukuo Naa of manguli.
However, the chief of Manguli is reported to have also enskinned another person as Kukuo Naa, a sub-chief to him which triggered the communal clashes.
Speaking to Zaa News, the northern regional police public relations officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said three persons have so far been arrested in connection with the incident.
The three, according to ASP Tetteh, will be charged with various offences and arraigned before the Tamale magistrate court.
ASP Tetteh warned people who are bent on fomenting troubles in the northern region that the police will deal with them according to the laws of Ghana.
