“We won’t sit down and allow NPP to jeopardize the future of youngsters,” Minority leader fumes

The minority in parliament has descended heavily on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by President Nana Addo for experimenting with the education of Ghana’s future leaders.

The minority led by their leader, Haruna Iddrisu said the president must rethink his Free Senior High School program when they go out to beg for funds.

“As minority, we will not sit down and allow the NPP to jeopardize the future of  youngsters because it is abundantly clear that what he said is a gargantuan failure,” Mr. Haruna Iddrisu said at a rally in Kulikuli school after Saturday’s Unity Walk.

The idea of Free of SHS, the minority leader said, was a noble social and political objective but in pursuit of it, it must be based on adequate reliable and sustainable financing and not experimental financing,” the Tamale South legislator reminded the government.

Citing precedents in the educational sector in 1997 when the then NDC government encountered difficulty financing tertiary education, the then government built a national consensus resulting into the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GeTFund), the minority leader stated.

The minority is therefore calling on government to dialogue further as a country on the financing of senior high schools in order to safeguard what is currently happening.
“We know, and we fear with certainty,  without any contradiction that the government cannot finance and the Ghana’s economy can’t contained it,” the minority leader warned.
