USAID and partners engaged stakeholders on implementation of $175 Performance Accountability Activity program.

Democracy International (DI) and Norsaac, a community-based human rights and policy organization has commenced a transformative project aimed at improving local public service accountability with a series of Regional Sensitizations trainings.

The $175 million initiative dubbed the “Ghana Performance Accountability Activity” is a United States Agency for national Development (USAID) funded implemented by Democracy International (DI).

 In all, 79 Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts Assemblies across Ghana will benefit from the five years program.

Previous efforts by donor partners to enhance service quality and accountability according to Democracy International (DI) have yielded unsustainable results.

The Performance Accountability Activity (PAA), DI observed is characterized by exclusivity, stability, color behavior-driven approaches, promises to deliver immediate and lasting impacts.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a day regional stakeholders’ engagement in Tamale, Deputy Chief of the Party of PAA project, Linda Ofori-Kwafo explained that the objective of PAA include increasing citizens demand for responsive service delivery, enhancing efficiency through robust regulatory standard and empowering local-level public service providers to uphold quality standards. It will also strengthen the connection between Ghanaian values and performance standards.

She explained that the e project further will enhance the capacity of Government partners including ministries, and the targeted 79 local district assemblies as well as civil society organizations and community-based organizations to implement behavior-led capacity-building.

 Madam Linda Ofori-Kwafo explained that PAA would leverage on the gains of the already existing USAID activities in the targeted districts. She expressed the hope a sustainable and lasting impact that in the past development partners are not able to make.

Executive Director of Norsaac, Alhassan Mohammed Awal said his outfit was focus on economic opportunities to improving healthcare delivery, better educational outcomes, peace and stable in communities, and Social Protection.  

He expressed the hope that with the implementation of PAA, there will be proper accountability and better service delivery in the country.
