Doctors at TTH Condemns Media Misrepresentation and Public Vilification of Colleague Amid Incident with Health Minister
The Doctors Association of Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH) has expressed serious concern over social media videos and media reports misrepresenting an incident involving one of its members during the Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh’s April 22nd visit to the facility’s Accident and Emergency Department.
According to a statement released by the association, the reports circulating in the media do not reflect the actual facts on the ground. The incident reportedly occurred when the Head of the Accident and Emergency Department discussed the challenges surrounding managing a referred patient with the Minister. The discussion, unfortunately, escalated into a verbal exchange.

DATTH emphasized that their colleague has consistently demonstrated professionalism and commitment to patient care and that the media coverage has unfairly tarnished his image. The association condemned the public interrogation of their member and described it as inappropriate and damaging to morale.
They urged the media to exercise restraint and accuracy when reporting on sensitive healthcare matters and called on the public to desist from spreading unverified information on social platforms.
While awaiting the outcome of an official committee of enquiry, DATTH reaffirmed its full support for the embattled doctor, commending his leadership and dedication. The association warned that persistent resource constraints at the hospital, paired with the scapegoating of medical staff, could lead to actions that may disrupt industrial harmony.
An emergency meeting of all doctors at the Tamale Teaching Hospital is being convened to discuss the way forward.
