Tatale, Northern Region – June 25, 2025
Hon. Mary Tagba has been overwhelmingly confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Tatale-Sanguli District, following a unanimous endorsement by all assembly members—a rare 100% approval that signals strong confidence in her leadership.
Nominated by President John Dramani Mahama, Hon. Tagba becomes the second woman currently serving as a DCE in the Northern Region, joining the DCE for Nanton. Her confirmation marks a significant stride in gender representation in local governance, a sector historically dominated by men.

Hon. Tagba brings to the role a wealth of experience in local government administration. Notably, she served as the Presiding Member for the former Zabzugu/Tatale District Assembly from 2009 to mid-2012. Following the creation of the new Tatale-Sanguli District carved out of Zabzugu/Tatale, she continued in the same role, completing her term as the first Presiding Member of the newly formed district. Her deep-rooted involvement in grassroots governance is widely credited with earning her broad respect and trust across political and community divides.
The confirmation ceremony, held today in Tatale, drew a host of dignitaries, traditional leaders, and party faithful. Leading the delegation was the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Adolf Ali John Mbrudiba, who represented President Mahama. In his address, the Minister praised the unity and decisiveness of the Assembly, describing the endorsement as a “vote of confidence in both the nominee and the leadership of the NDC.”
Among those present were Hon. Sugri Muniru, MCE for Yendi; Hon. George Tanie Lakoba, DCE for Zabzugu; Hon. Abu Takoro, MCE for Tamale; and several regional and constituency party executives. Their presence underscored the political significance of the moment, as well as growing regional support for women’s leadership.

Former Member of Parliament for Tatale-Sanguli, Hon. Tampi Acheampong Simon, congratulated Hon. Tagba in a public statement, commending her years of grassroots political experience.
“This achievement is a testament to your exceptional leadership, dedication, and tireless efforts,” he wrote. “With your experience and vision, you are uniquely positioned to restore integrity and inspire progress at the Assembly.”
Social media also buzzed with congratulatory messages, including one from the Deputy Communication Officer of the NDC in neighboring Zabzugu, who described the confirmation as “a milestone for women in politics across the region.”
“This is not just a personal triumph but a shared victory for all who believe in inclusive leadership,” his post read. “The NDC family in Zabzugu warmly celebrates with you. May Allah guide your steps and bless your tenure with wisdom and peace.”
Hon. Mary Tagba is expected to formally assume office in the coming days. She steps into the role at a time when the district faces both challenges and opportunities, and her leadership will be pivotal in driving the NDC’s development agenda centered on equity, transformation, and grassroots empowerment.
