A woman suspected of stealing a two-day old baby last week threw the Tamale district magistrate court two (2) presided over by His Worship Augustin Essah into confusion and laughter when she told the open court that she wanted a baby with her.
Vida Golomesio, 38, the suspected thief told the court that her siblings are in the south leaving her and the husband at Karaga in the northern region. She also claimed to have carried out the act out of pressure by her husband’s family after several years of marriage without a child. She claimed she trades with the baby’s mother and was only helping the 80-year old grandmother, Nuwokpo Limah and the nursing mother Limah Addo with the baby.
The court room burst into laughter after the remorseful Golomesio started making incoherent statements which led the judge to think she suffered from mental illness. The judge subsequently asked for the presence of the nursing mother and the suspect’s husband before she could be sentenced. Though the court found Golomesio guilty on her own plea, the judge deferred sentencing to Wednesday 14,October, 2015.
The judge made reference to the behaviour of Charles Antwi, the man who allegedly wanted to kill the President, John Dramani Mahama in a church with a pistol and said the woman needs to be examined thoroughly on her psyche.
In a related development, the Tamale High Court presided over by Justice Twumasi Appiah has remanded three suspected car snatchers into prison custody.
The three were charged with robbery and abetment of crime and will reappear on the 27th of this month. The suspects pleaded not guilty but their plea was not taken.
The court also remanded one Adamu Asuma, 35, for allegedly kidnapping one of the team members of Ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye PI, Ishmel Hussein.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh who spoke to Zaa News after court proceedings on Monday said Hussein was not in court for security reasons but would be brought to court when needed and only heard in-camera.
