The Center for Active Learning and Integrated Development (CALID-Ghana) has broken ground for the construction of a six-unit classroom block at Nwodua in the Kumbungu District of the Northern Region. The project aims to provide a conducive learning environment for pupils of the Nwodua Basic School.

Speaking at a brief ceremony to hand over the site to the contractor, the Executive Director of CALID-Ghana, Mohammed Awal Sumani Bapio, outlined the project’s key components. These include a six-unit classroom block, a teachers’ common hall, an ICT center, and other ancillary facilities to enhance effective teaching and learning.

The initiative is funded by the Japanese Embassy in Ghana under the People of Japan Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security (GGHS) project, with a total funding of GHC 1,316,120.00.

Prior to this intervention, the community’s classroom block had collapsed, forcing over 120 pupils to study in makeshift zinc tents, which generated extreme heat, making learning difficult.

The Kumbungu District Director of Education, Yahaya Sulemana, and community leaders lauded CALID-Ghana for the initiative, describing it as a beacon of hope and opportunity for the area. The project is expected to be completed within 10 months.

Meanwhile, the contractor pledged to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe and urged community members to collaborate with him to ensure its success.
